Most third-party NinjaTrader 8 indicators come as a .zip file. Here's how to import and use one. Menu names can differ slightly between NinjaTrader versions, so check them against your own build.
Before you start
- Do not unzip the file. NinjaTrader imports the zip as-is.
- Download only from sources you trust. Indicators run code on your machine.
- Back up your workspaces if you rely on them.
Step 1: Import the add-on
- Open the NinjaTrader 8 Control Center
- Go to Tools, then Import, then NinjaScript Add-On
- Select the downloaded .zip file and click Open
- Accept the license prompt if shown and wait for the success message
- Restart NinjaTrader if asked
Step 2: Add the indicator to a chart
- Open a chart (for example MNQ or NQ)
- Right-click the chart and choose Indicators (or press Ctrl+I)
- Find the new indicator in the Available list
- Click Add, adjust the parameters, then Apply and OK
Step 3: Save a template
Once your indicators are configured, right-click the chart, choose Templates, then Save as, so you can apply the same setup to any chart.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely fix |
|---|---|
| Indicator doesn't appear in the list | Restart NinjaTrader and re-import. Make sure you imported via NinjaScript Add-On rather than unzipping |
| Compile errors after import | Open the NinjaScript Editor, press F5 to compile, and read the error. Confirm the indicator supports your NinjaTrader 8 version |
| License or hardware ID error | Check the vendor's license terms, such as the number of PCs allowed |
| Indicator draws nothing | Check the chart's data series and time frame, and the indicator's visibility settings |
| Chart slows down | Reduce days to load or the number of active indicators |
Using levels indicators
Levels indicators (prior-day high and low, daily levels and similar) mark prices where traders often watch for reactions. They aren't predictive. They give context for where a trade idea may be valid or wrong. See how to read a futures trade idea.
TradeSharing's indicator package
The MCP Indicator Package is a one-time $400 purchase of twelve NinjaTrader 8 indicators, including daily levels, with install instructions and a personal license for up to two PCs. It becomes available after the free 14-day trial.
